We have found just the right monsoon trek for you. Ever heard of the Visapur Fort? In case you haven’t, Visapur Fort is a hill fort near Visapur village in Maharashtra. (which is around 100 km away from Mumbai and 60 from Pune) The fort is a part of the Visapur-Lohagad fortification and you can find caves, water tanks, old houses, archs, waterfalls and temples inside the fort. But what makes it the ideal trekking destination for the monsoon season?

With a beautiful, gushing staircase waterfall which you have to follow for the most part of the trail, the Visapur Trek is a favourite among the nature lovers. With overflowing streams during the rainy season, this staircase waterfall makes for the perfect monsoon getaway leading up to the ruins of the fort that once was a part of the Maratha Empire.

The Visapur Fort

Located at an elevation of 1084 metres above sea level, the Visapur fort is one of the highest located forts in Maharashtra. Built in the early 18th century by Balaji Vishwanath, who is believed to be the first-ever Peshwa of the Maratha Empire the fort has other attractions to offer too! 

Among the historical ruins and the staircase waterfall, you can also explore the Peshwas Palace, several Hanuman temples. There is also a well that according to local legends is believed to be built by the Pandavas during their exile period. However, built out of stone this ancient fort is in ruins today. But, the collapsed walls still narrate the legends of its formation and survival!
