Always wanted to live like the Royals? Well, now you can make it happen! For a (massive) price, of course. Don’t know what we’re talking about? Well, Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh has just become the first royal Airbnb host and has enlisted the Gudliya Suite in his home a.k.a The City Palace of Jaipur on the Airbnb site. Can’t believe what you’re reading? Well, we couldn’t either. But, we got in touch with Riaan J. George, a Mumbai based Men’s Luxury Blogger, to give us all the inside deets on one of India’s most expensive Airbnb!
The Gudliya Suit
Located bang in the city centre, The City Palace of Jaipur was built in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II and is one of the most iconic spots in Jaipur along with being home to the Royal Family. The room in question – The Gudliya Suite – is an impeccably designed suit located in the private sections of the palace and comes with a lounge, kitchen, bathroom and an indoor swimming pool of its own.
Talking about the interior and architecture, Riaan said, “The palace architecture needs no introduction. It’s really grand, stately and absolutely magnificent and the suite itself is beautifully done. It’s got a modern vibe and is yet very traditional and India. It’s got a very Euro-chic vibe and really suits the modern traveller’s taste!”
Staying in a suite that’s hosted guests like Princess Diana and Oprah Winfrey must be nothing short of phenomenal. “It was quite an extraordinary experience. Staying at the palace is very different from staying at just another luxury hotel. I’ve seen the best of luxury in my 15-year career as a luxury blogger and journalist but this was nothing like anything I’ve experienced before!” said Riaan.
The Royal Treatment
The royal treatment begins as soon as you land in Jaipur. You’ll be picked up by a chauffeur who will drive you to the palace and hand you over to your personal royal butler.
“The most important facility is that you have access to the private palace of the king. You literally have VIP access and you’re away from the crowd who only get to see the parts of the palace that are open to the general public. ” Along with that, you get two gourmet meals at the palace’s in-house restaurant where you can expect traditional Rajasthani dishes like laal maas and some top-notch wine and Champagne. You will also get a guided tour of the palace premises by a member of the royal staff, who will explain the intricacies of the architecture, art and decor.
For a Good Cause
Staying at a suite in the City Palace of Jaipur obviously doesn’t come cheap. You’d have to shell out a whopping 7 lakhs for a night but it’s for a good cause. The proceeds of each booking will go to Princess Diya Kumari Foundation, a local nonprofit organisation dedicated to supporting rural women and the people of Rajasthan. “Right now, there’s an introductory offer that you can make the most of! From November 23rd, 2019 till January 1st, 2020, you can book the room for around INR 74,000 per night, because the rest of the amount is being donated by Airbnb.“
