From cafes around your college to canteens inside your college, you’ll be spoilt for choice! Trust us, we’ve been there, done that (probably why we have to hit the gym at least 5 times a week now.) But, jokes aside, the DU colleges have some of the best canteens serving the most appetizing food and they won’t even burn a hole in your pockets. Which is why we have put together a list of 8 of the best college canteens that you must eat at!
1. The Lady Shri Ram Cafeteria
The LSR Canteen, a.k.a the cafeteria, has a vast menu with a ton of mouth-watering delicacies for not just the vegetarians, but also the non-vegetarians. In fact, the cafe is super popular among students for serving some of the best non-veg dishes on campus! Also, they prepare a different sweet or savoury dish ever single day including the usual brownies, vanilla or chocolate cake slice or even pizzas and hotdogs. Did the foodie in you just a do a little happy dance?
2. Sri Venkateswara College Canteen
Sri Venkateswara College or ‘Venky’ as it’s called, boasts of a super impressive canteen. Although they serve vegetarian food only, you cannot underestimate their vast menu. With a massive eating area outside, this canteen serve Aloo Tikkis, Masala Maggi, Samosas, Fried Rice along with the perfect Chai!
What’s truly a hit is their South Indian cuisine. You’ll be able to spot some idli, vada and sambar at each of the tables in the canteen. Which is why you should make it a point to not miss out on it! Also, every once in a while they serve Jalebi too! Now, what can be better than piping hot jalebis!
Must-Have: Their Masala Dosa, Chilli potato, Vada Sambhar and of course the Jalebi
3. Hindu College Canteen
With a wide variety of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, the Hindu canteen is known to serve the most hygienic food. The menu, ranging from the standard Samosas and rajma chawal, to shahi paneer, dosa, fresh juice and ice cream shakes, is also very pocket-friendly, so you absolutely don’t have to worry about being broke!
What you must try at Hindu’s canteen are their paranthas, and the yummy street food items like gol gappe, bhel puri etc. So, no more trips to the nearest Haldirams, now that you have everything available at your college canteen!
4. Ramjas College Canteen
Ramjas prides itself on its three-storeyed canteen and why wouldn’t they, especially since one of the floors is air-conditioned! Yes, guys, an AC is a major luxury in DU. Their menu includes the usual chole bhature, rajma or chole rice, pasta and French fries, etc.
They also serves regional dishes from varied states keeping in mind the wide diversity of students. The specialities range from the Chinese to North Indian Thalis. So if you’re ever missing your Ghar ka Khaana, you know where to go!
5. Delhi School of Economics Canteen
The list is incomplete without the D-School’s (as everyone so lovingly calls it) canteen. The canteen at Delhi School of Economics attracts students from all over Delhi University, especially all the hardcore non-vegetarians. It’s never a dull moment here as you’ll find both the canteen and the cafe outside always buzzing with students!
The mutton dosa, which costs all of 45 bucks, actually tastes like a million bucks, so it’s definitely must-have! You must also try their egg curry with rice, chhole bhature, mutton cutlets and thali! Sounds like food heaven, doesn’t it?
6. St. Stephen’s Canteen
The St. Stephen’s college canteen will remind you of an old school coffee house with its wicker chairs and wooden floors. Also, just so you know, don’t make the mistake of calling the cafeteria a cafeteria, it’s a canteen. Okay? Okay.
The canteen offers a mix of non-veg and vegetarian dishes. And is famous mostly for its mince cutlets, chicken curry rice dishes, croissants and dill pickle sandwiches. Another must-try dish is their scrambled eggs with toast. The fried rice with chole is also loved by the students! Just talking about all this food is making our stomachs growl!
7. IP College Canteen
IP College is as it is known for having one of the best campuses in North campus. So you already have a fair idea of how good their cafeteria must be! The canteen has rooftop seating! Can it get any better than that? The answer is yes!
The canteen has a ton of snacks like Maggi, bread paneer pakoda, chole bhature, south Indian food, spring rolls, fresh fruit juice, coffee etc. Taking it a notch higher, you’ll also find dishes like cheese Maggi, thali, tomato soup, Gulab Jamun etc. at this canteen. They also have packaged food available in the canteen, for those who are hygiene conscious and a chat ka thela right outside the campus. So, for the next three years eating out will mean eating at college!
8. Jesus and Mary College Canteen
he JMC canteen is basically a big hall, located in the heart of the huge campus. The ambience is contemporary with big blue tables and seats placed all around them. The canteen whips up some mouth-watering snacks and meals ranging from South Indian to Chinese to the good old and everybody’s favourite Rajma Chawal.
Along with this, their drinks menu has hot tea, coffee both hot and cold, iced tea and aerated drinks of all kinds. All this and more at very reasonable rates and with above-average service.
