Even before the bungalow was made, tea gardens have been there as a part of Steinthal Tea Estate. Initially, the estate was started by Joachim Stoelke, a German priest, in 1854. Also, it was the first of the tea plantations that took place in Darjeeling. From 1854, the estate ownership was given to the Chirimar family, one of India’s oldest tea planting families.
Situated merely 20 kilometres from the Darjeeling town, Singtom Tea Estate spans across 1,600 acres of a tea plantation with River Rungneet and Mount Kanchenjunga at the doorstep. The average height of the estate is about 4500 ft. Tea factory and resort, both are located inside the garden. This estate is at a higher altitude, produces a beautiful quality of Darjeeling Tea – black, green and white.
