The wedding season can be a tricky one to get through. With all the different trends you have to worry about when it comes to putting together your outfits, it can get pretty maddening. From shararas and gararas to all the different types of lehengas and sarees, there’s so much going on in the fashion world, it can get a little overwhelming. So, we got in touch with Maia Sethna, a popular Mumbai-based fashion and lifestyle content creator and consultant to share with us a list of outfits you can experiment with this wedding season. Read on!
1. Shararas
When wearing a sharara, make sure you wear a well-fitted kurta with it. If the sharara pants are too long, wear heals so that the bottom of the pants sits properly. You can also wear your sharara pants with a crop top. Designers are dialling up the glamour to the traditional sharara, so go ahead and take your pick. Wear this to a Mehendi, Sangeet or ceremony.
2. Gararas
In case you are wondering what the difference between the two is, the sharara pants are fitted at the waist and flared out till your feet whereas garara pants are fitted from your waist down till your knee and then flare out to your feet. I personally feel that this is a tougher silhouette to pull off and the fit is very important. Garara pants are usually worn with a shorter kurta and dupatta. If your kurta has a lot of detailed work, pull back your hair in a sleek ponytail to show it off.
3. Gown
I love wearing a well-fitted, embroidered gown for an engagement, cocktail or reception wedding event. Put your hair up in a bun or sleek ponytail and wear with statement diamond earrings and a cocktail ring.
4. Fishtail Lehenga
Change up your regular flared lehenga skirt for a fish cut lehenga. This elegant silhouette is perfect for a sangeet or reception and highlights your waist and hips. Accessorize with a maang tikka and blingy clutch bag.
5. Pant Saree
The trendy pant sari is here to stay. Choose from different silhouettes; dhoti pants, sharara pants, fitted pants or cropped pants, if you prefer. This is perfect for any occasion and can be worn for a day function or night function, depending on the colour you select. It’s functional yet elegant.
6. Lehenga with a Cape
I love the way designers are playing around with this trend and creating fun, feminine silhouettes. The traditional dupatta is now being replaced by a cape, which provides a hands-free option, which can be practical especially for brides.
7. Indian jumpsuit
Indian jumpsuits are very trendy right now. They are what you call the perfect mix of Indian and western. You can wear yours with an ethnic headpiece and high heels.
8. Brocade pants
If you’re looking for something different to wear for that Mehendi function you have to attend, try a pair of brocade pants. You can easily style it with a simple cropped top or even a white shirt, for that sophisticated look and add some layered necklaces and voila!
9. A south Indian sari lehenga
With so many new types and silhouettes of sarees coming up, we often tend to underestimate a simple, traditional one. A south Indian lehenga saree is an evergreen piece and works well for the main wedding function. Accessorize it with a potli bag and statement neckpieces.
10. Full-length Anarkalis
This multifunctional garment can be worn for a variety of function. Lighter colour and playful silhouettes for the day time and jewel tones or deeper hues work better for a night function.
11. Ruffled Sari
To dial up the drama, pick a ruffled sari in an ivory or jewel tone to wear to a wedding reception. Accessorize it well with statement earrings and a clutch bag and go for a simple hairdo and you’ve got yourself a glam look!
12. Ethnic Co-ords

Co-ords just make life much simpler. You can go for co-ords in light and flowy fabrics and wear it with Polki jewellery and an embroidered clutch for a more traditional feel.
