Who says animated films are only meant for kids? Some of the best stories ever told are through animated characters and the jury at the Academy Awards agrees with us. Movies like Shrek, Finding Nemo, The Lion King and many others have been nominated for and won the Oscar in a number of categories and that says a lot. So, we’ve curated a list of the best-animated films that you’ll abso-freaking-lutely love! Trust us when we say that because we loved each and every one of them on this list!

1. Hotel Transylvania (Franchise)

The first film, Hotel Transylvania, was released on September 2012. A sequel was then released in September 2015 and a third film, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, was released on July 2018. All three of the films received rave reviews and were loved by the audience and the critics alike. Definitely, a must-watch, whether you do it with your nieces and nephews or by yourself!

2. The Incredibles (1 and 2)

The first instalment of The Incredibles came out in 2005 and after a very long wait of 13 years came the second one! There’s only one word to describe this animated film – Incredible. We fell in love with the superhero family, from Mr and Mrs Incredible to the three kids! And we know for sure that you will too! So go and watch it right away!

3. Isle of Dogs

The much talked about Isle of Dogs was the story of a young Japanese boy named Atari. Atari embarked on an expedition to reunite with his beloved canine best friend on Trash Island where an evil mayor has banished all of the nation’s dogs. This film was an unforgettable ode to dogs, loyalty and the bond of friendship and we just couldn’t get enough of it!

4. Up

No list of animated films is complete without this gem of a film. Up was the most beautiful, heartwarming and emotional film about an old man and how dealt with the death of his beloved wife. Not only that, but Up also won two Oscars. One for the best-animated feature and the best score, and was also nominated in the original screenplay and sound editing categories. We think we’ve given you enough reasons to watch it if you haven’t already!

5. Toy Story (Franchise)

Now come on guys, who doesn’t know about the Toy Story franchise. And don’t say you’re not the least bit interested in know what your toys do once you leave the room. The first film which came out in 1995 did so well that they made 3 more and of course we couldn’t be more delighted! Long gone are the days of the damsels in distress. The girls in animated films now take matters into their own hands. Which is exactly why we loved Brave. The film was about Merida, an independent archer takes a journey to reverse a curse that she had unleashed when she disobeyed an ancient custom. Through her journey, she discovers the real meaning of bravery! Grab your bowl of popcorn because we know we’ve already got your attention!

7. How To Train Your Dragon (Franchise)

How To Train Your Dragon is a film franchise about a boy and his pet. The movies are about parenthood and inter-generational battles. About dooming your children to a war they never started and the foolishness of denying young people their own voice. These films depict a coming-of-age story, about discovering your own sense of self and developing the confidence to express it. Probably why it touted as one of the best-animated film franchises ever. Need we say more?

8. Finding Dory

If you loved Finding Nemo, we know you’ll love this one too! The star of this movie is Dory the talkative blue fish who helped Marlin find his son Nemo in the Finding Nemo. With vague memories of her past, amnesiac Dory sets off in search of her long-lost parents with the help of her Marlin and Nemo. Finding Dory isn’t just a worthy sequel to Nemo, it also succeeds on its own – as a rousing tale of love and overcoming adversity. Finding Dory is all heart and probably one of our personal favourites!
