Summer is here and the heat is on! Nonetheless, we are still looking forward to lounging by the pool, exploring exotic destinations or when it’s effing hot outside, just spending the afternoon in a movie theatre. And of course, both Bollywood and Hollywood have got us covered with a fab line up of summer releases! What else do you need? So, here’s a list of all the movies that the next two months have in store for us.
1. Student of the Year – 10th May
Starting with the most awaited SOTY 2, which marks the Bollywood debut of newbies Ananya Pandey and Tara Sutaria. Backed up by the biggest franchise in the industry, we are sure this one’s going to be big on the box office (nevermind the acting). So if you’re interested in an overly glamourised and totally unrealistic version of high school (because trust us, we’ve been there, done that) then this one’s for you!
2. De De Pyaar De – 17th May
Are slapstick comedies your thing? Then you should totally catch this one by the makers of Pyaar ka Punchama(s) and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. De De Pyaar de is about a 50-year-old man who falls in love with a girl almost half his age and faces disapproval from his family and ex-wife. Starring Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Rakul Preet, this movie sure does sound like it’s going to be a lot of fun!
3. Aladdin – 24th May
We’re sure you’re no stranger to the storyline of this one. Aladdin is the live-action remake of Disney’s 1992 animated movie of the same name. And guess who’s playing genie? It’s none other than Will Smith! But 90’s kids, you have to watch it for nostalgia’s sake and the other’s, you just have to watch it!
4. India’s Most Wanted – 24th May
We’ve seen all the Kapoor Sisters (and there are quite a few) posting pictures of the poster on their grams. The story and the trailer both seem promising. Now only if Arjun Kapoor is able to do justice to his role (and give more than 2 expressions) this might be one of the best releases of the summer!
5. PM Narendra Modi – 24th May
India’s Election Commission pushed the release date for this movie until after the polls close for the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. The reason being that the eulogising of Narendra Modi is very clear. Moreover, several scenes are depicting a major opposition party as corrupt and showing them in poor light. We know who the makers of this movie are voting for!
6. Godzilla: King of the Monsters – 31st May
It’s the return of the Big G and this time it’s with Eleven a.k.a Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things. If you’ve watched and enjoyed all or most of the many Godzilla films, we are sure you’re just as excited for this one. And if you’re one of those who hasn’t watched even one of the Godzilla movies, you have plenty of time to catch up. So hurry up!
7. Bharat – 5th June
What’s Eid without a bhai movie releasing the same day? The first poster of the film made us think Salman Khan has finally come to terms with the fact that he’s ageing, but the trailer said otherwise. Bhai is evergreen! Along with Katrina Kaif and Disha Patani (we guess), this movie is obviously going to be a blockbuster.
8. Dark Phoenix – 7th June
Starring Sansa Stark, sorry we mean the recently married Sophie Turner (it’s the GOT fever), Dark Phoenix will put the X men in a tough spot to decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all the people living in the world. Calling all X-men fan, gear up because this year is looking good for you guys!
9. Men In Black International – 14th June
All the MIB fans, there’s a treat in store for you too! The fourth installment of the much loved MIB series is out this summer. Also, introducing us to two new agents, Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. This time they will be tackling their biggest threat to date, a mole in the MIB organisation!
10. The Zoya Factor – 14th June
Based on the best selling novel of the same name by Anuja Chauhan, here’s a treat for the rom-com lovers! For those of you who haven’t read the book, the story revolves around Zoya, an advertising agent and her relationship with the captain of team India, Nikhil. And everyone who takes their insta scroll seriously already knows this one’s going to star Sonam Kapoor and Dulquer Salmaan. We’re sure everyone who loves Anuja Chauhan’s books is going to be excited about this one for sure because we definitely are!
11. Kabir Singh – 21st June
A remake of the 2017 Telegu movie Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh stars Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani. The same old Boy and Girl love each other but the girl has to marry someone else and so the boy loses his mind story. But ladies, you have to watch it for how hot Shahid Kapoor looks with that beard!
12. Yesterday – 28th June
Yesterday, everyone knew who the Beatles were and today, only Jack, a struggling musicians remembers their songs. Can you imagine a world without the Beatles? Well, watch this movie to know what it would be like! Also, there’s Ed Sheeran and James Corden in the movie! Excited much?
13. Annabelle Comes Home – 28th June
For all you Annabelle fans, this summer Ed and Lorraine are bringing her home. To their artefacts room and it’s going to turn into a nightmare for their 10-year-old daughter. Sounds quite scary us, so we suggest you don’t watch it alone or at night!
14. Spider Man: Far From Home – 2nd July
This one’s going to be ah-mazing because this time Peter Parker and his friends are going to Europe! With Tom Holland now in the picture as Peter Parker, we are sure this is just the second of the many many more Spider Man movies to come. So make sure you watch this to stay in the game!
15. Jabariya Jodi – 12th July
Anything can happen in Bihar. Even groom kidnapping is a thing. Watch Jabariya Jodi, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Pareenti Chopra, to know more about this bizarre phenomenon. Hopefully, with a couple of years of experience in the industry, this pair will do better than they did in Hassee toh Phasee.
16. Lion King – 19th July (tentative)
Guys, are you ready to bawl your eyes out all over again? While we are not prepared to watch Mufasa die again, but we definitely want to see Simba take what’s rightfully his. Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce as Nala, John Oliver as Zazu and Seth Rogen as Pumba, this is going to be one heck of a movie. We certainly can’t wait for Hakuna Matata!
