In the last 1 year, we have seen significant growth in the made-in-India TV content. It seems to us like everyone’s finally moved over the saas-bahu daily soap drama! So if you’re not living in a cave, we’re sure you’re probably already hooked onto these Indian web series. So we have compiled a list of all the recent web series that you must add to your ‘To Watch’ lists!
1. Hostages – Hotstar
tarring Ronit Roy and Tisca Chopra, Hostages, a Hotstar original has a pretty compelling premise that will get you hooked in no time! Four masked men take renowned surgeon Dr Mira Anand and her family hostages. The only way she can save her family is if she agrees to kill a patient. Watch the show to know what Mira, a principled and committed surgeon will do.
2. Fuh se Fantasy – Voot
Bedroom fantasies have been a matter of private discussion for years in India, so this Voot web series is a fresh take on sexual fetish. They have dealt with the bedroom fantasies in a very sensitive and aesthetic manner, and no this is not virtual porn, in case your mind wandered a little. However, we do advise you against watching it with your parents!
3. Criminal Justice – Hotstar
Starring two of the best, most underrated actors from Bollywood – Vikrant Massey and Pankaj Tripathi, Criminal Justice is an Indian adaptation of the British TV drama series of the same name. This series revolves around Aditya (Vikrant) who is charged of a murder and how he has to get through the criminal justice system to prove his innocence. Sounds gripping, doesn’t it?
4. Poison – Zee 5
Starring Arbaaz Khan, Riya Sen and other’s, Zee5’s Poison is a series that much like its title, will consume you! A crime thriller, Poison narrates the intricacies of love turning into lust and greed, making it difficult to differentiate between right and wrong, which obviously has its own consequences. You’ll have to watch the show to know what we mean.
5. Mind the Malhotra’s – Prime Video
A situational comedy starring Mini Mathur and Cyrus Sahukar, Mind the Malhotra’s is your prime time entertainment series that you can watch together with your fam! The plot of the series follows the hilarious incidents that take place in the daily lives of the Malhotra family. We are sure this one’s going to leave you in splits.
6. Humorously Yours Season 2 – TVF Play
After the success of season 1, TVF’s Humorously Yours is back with its second season. Starring Vipul Goyal as himself and Rasika Duggal as his wife Kavya, this show is a semi-autobiographical account of his foray into stand up comedy. Watch this light-hearted comedy to wind down after a long day at work!
7. Laakohn Mein Ek – Season 2 – Prime Video
Created by stand up comedian Biswa Kalyan Rath and starring Shweta Tripathi, Laakhon Mein Ek Season 2 exposes some inconvenience truths of a corrupt society. With younger audiences, the makers have created a show that is relevant to our times and urges us to step out of our comfort zones and face the inconvenient realities of our time. It’s one of those shows that you would be able to relate to right from the word go!
8. Kota Factory – TVF Play
The first Indian black and white web series, this one is a biting commentary on the coaching culture in India which thrives as a parallel education arrangement which has led to insecurities in classrooms. This web series is a delightfully fun ode to friendship, one that you must not miss out on!
